2012 tickets – you’re only charged for successful events

Contrary to recent rumours, we can confirm that you will only be charged for London 2012 tickets you have been allocated between Tuesday 10 May and Fri 10 June 2011.

A notification will be sent out to applicants confirming which tickets they have been allocated by 24 June 2011. Remaining tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Games will become available for sale online and by phone on a first come, first served basis, using Visa only, from winter 2011.

LOCOG will be launching a London 2012 ticket resale programme which will give ticket holders the opportunity to sell their tickets, for no greater than face value, to prospective buyers in a secure environment. Further information will be released in 2011.

Many people had feared that they would be charged for all the events they had applied for, to be refunded at a later date for the ones they weren’t successful for. For those who had applied for numerous events this was a deep concern, with the holiday season fast approaching and other financial commitments. The communication of this still isn’t particularly clear, but having confirmed this to be the case we thought it best to inform everyone who might be unsure.

This isn’t the first time The Games have been called into question about their communication. There had already been some controversy surrounding the method of payment, as it was announced that Visa had secured the exclusive rights to this and was the only online payment provider.
